Rookies Division (6-7 Year Olds)
The Rookies division is an instructional co-ed division, not a competitive division. The games will be either coach or machine pitch. Games and practices are held on a 46/60 field. Some standard baseball rules have been modified to support the goal of teaching the basic skills and fundamentals of baseball.
The league will not track wins and losses or keep league standings. Game score will be kept for the purpose of tracking innings. First inning all players bat. After the first inning an inning ends after 3 outs or 10 batters.
The primary focus of the division is learning the rules and fundamental skills and enjoying the game of baseball.
Rookies division goals are for players to gain a sense of achievement through improving their fundamental baseball skills, value good sportsmanship by demonstrating respect for NMYBBSB facilities, the coaches and assistants, teammates, opponents, their equipment and themselves, be ready for the next level of baseball and to have a desire to play again.
Spring and Fall Season Overviews:
For the spring season, typically, 10 games are scheduled, which are played predominantly on weekends with a few weekday games. 8 games are typically scheduled for the fall season. Games are 6 innings with a 2-hour hard time limit. No inning will be started after 1 hour and 30 minutes.
For the spring season, players are assigned to a team in mid to late March and the head coach will contact you via email or phone. Practices are held at the discretion of the head coach, but typically once per week. For the fall season, practices and games typically start in early September and run through October.
In addition to playing facilities, NMYBBSB will provide players with a jersey and hat. Bats must be USABat certified. Players are expected to have their own glove and will need to wear long pants and a protective cup. Coaches may ask that parents buy certain color pants and socks to coordinate with a team uniform.
